Scaling and Root Planing Removal of calculus deposits from the roots of the teeth, and the subsequent removal of smaller particles of embedded calculus to produce a smooth, hard, clean surface. Root planing is the process by which residual embedded calculus and portions of cementum are removed from the roots to produce a smooth, hard, clean surface)
