Tooth Brushing Techniques

Do you know how to brush your teeth?
Silly question? Not really!

It’s amazing how many patients don’t brush their teeth or do not know how to brush their teeth. One-quarter of adults admit that they do not brush their teeth twice a day.  The percentage is higher for men (one-third). Less than one in four adults regularly floss their teeth and one-third have never flossed.

Brushing three times a day is recommended; in the morning, in the afternoon, and before going to sleep.  Brushing only once a day means your 33% more likely to develop tooth decay. (1) The proper way to brush your teeth is at a 45-degree angle holding the bristles toward the gums.

The most important time to brush is before going to sleep because the body does not produce enough saliva to fight against the sugars in the mouth. All bodily functions slow down while sleeping, therefore, bacteria grow rapidly, causing cavities and infection.
