A Brief History of Dental Implants

Dental implants have come of age as a premium solution for many different types of dental problems after years of development and refinement. For teeth that have become hopelessly decayed, infected and/or loose in the mouth, the dental implant is the most effective restoration.

TPer Ingvar Brånemarkhe safety and efficiency of titanium implant “fixtures” go as far back as 1952 when a Swedish physician (Dr. Per-Ingvar Brånemark) serendipitously discovered the bone bonding properties of this metal. His ongoing clinical research and experimentation led finally to extraordinary applications in dental medicine and the first dental patient was treated with titanium dental implants in 1965.

His name was Gosta Larsson and he went to his grave in 2006 with all of his implants intact.

The Nobel Biocare Brånemark Implant System used by the expert team at Pi is derived entirely from Dr. Brånemark’s original discovery and has the longest history of scientific research and product development, as well as the deepest well of consistent success.

In the twenty-first century, Nobel Biocare’s products and technology remain at the top of the charts for quality dental implant care.
