Also, for the first time in the history of the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics, I will be the first mentored student member of this Academy to present a poster at an annual meeting on Dec 5, 2008 in NYC.
Brief Description of the Project: This is a multicentered collaborative project between University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and Harvard School of Dental Medicine.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that influence predoctoral dental students in choosing a specialty training and whether mentorship within a specific specialty has an effect on a student’s decision to pursue a specialty training. In addition, this study asked predoctoral dental students about their predoctoral experience in prosthodontics.
The results from this study will illustrate for the first time what factors play an important role in the student’s decision to pursue a specialty training and whether mentorship in the field of prosthodontics has an impact in a student’s decision to pursue a prosthodontic training program. Furthermore, this study will show the student’s perceptions of the future impact of prosthodontics on their own live, that of their patients, and its overall all impact in the profession of dentistry as compared to other dental specialties.
Dr. Matilda Dhima is a fourth year dental student at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and a research associate at Pi Dental Center.
