Interview Transcript
Patty: Today we are talking about the importance of dental health. We’ve got Dr. Glenn Wolfinger, my dentist everybody, from the Pi Dental Center, helped to give me this beautiful smile, and Toni Robinson, who made the teeth. How does that sound Toni.
Toni: That sounds great.
Patty: Dr. Wolfinger, the importance of dental health. Tell us about it.
Dr. Wolfinger: Well, I think a lot of people don’t realize how important dental health really is. And issues that arise in the mouth can lead to systemic issues. We know that there are a lot of studies that show a direct correlation between poor dental health leading to issues like heart disease, digestive issues, really issues that can impact all different systems throughout the body. So, it is so important for patients to take good care of their teeth.
Patty: When they start seeing problems in the gums, I always say, if you’re gums are bleeding, it’s a problem.
Dr. Wolfinger: Absolutely, because, gum disease (periodontal disease) is a bacterial infection and when that bacteria infects the oral cavity, it also goes through your blood stream and it affects other organ systems throughout your body as well. So it is really important that everybody takes great care of their teeth, really reduce the issues intraorally, because it’s going to affect the whole body in general.
Patty: Let’s talk about teeth replacement. You guys are definitely one of the experts in teeth replacement. People say, “Oh, I just have some teeth missing in the back. It’s ok.” It’s not.
Dr. Wolfinger: No it’s not. Because we know that when patients don’t have a full complement of teeth, their diet is affected. They’re not going to eat the proper foods because they can’t chew the proper foods. They can’t digest the proper foods. So it’s very very important when you are missing a tooth to look at tooth replacement issue. A lot of people think that they’ll just take the tooth out. But without replacing the teeth, you are not going to have the same functional ability.
Dr. Wolfinger continues: And our office is very unique, because we have somebody like Toni in our office here who can help provide patients with teeth that same day. So we have the ability with Toni being an excellent lab technician, I can do my work clinically, Toni can build them some beautiful teeth, and they can leave that same day with a beautiful set of teeth ̶ whether it be removable teeth or fixed teeth.
Patty: Toni, when you did my mouth over 10 years ago, …
Toni: Yes 10 years.
Patty: What was the challenge, what were you thinking? Were you thinking her smile is going to be everywhere?
Toni: I knew it would, because you are all over the place, Patty. Yeah! The challenge was, I wanted to make it presentable for you, something that you would like, something comfortable, something that wouldn’t change your voice. Because your voice! We can’t get rid of Patty’s voice. So it was like, a lot of things are going through my mind. To just center in and focus, and it was a challenge. But you know what; we came out with beautiful results. And I was happy with it.
Patty: Wow. And I am extremely happy.
