National Prosthodontics Awareness Week
Sunday, April 12, 2015 begins the annual celebration of National Prosthodontics Awareness Week. In an era of extraordinary technological advances, many highly educated consumers remain unaware of the difference between their neighborhood dentist and the specialty of Prosthodontics. This week, across the nation and with the bountiful support of the American College of Prosthodontists, those professionals who have earned board certification with rigorous additional training will invite the public to don something like 3D dental glasses and to look into a mysterious part of the dental world that has the power to change a life.
In Fort Washington, PA, the Pi Dental Center, celebrating thirty years of Prosthodontic care in the community, has themed the week, Keep Your Smile In Mint Condition. That sums up the primary role of this specialty—to provide the vision for long -term dental health. Visitors to the center will receive tours and giveaways throughout the week and have questions answered by triple board certified prosthodontists, Thomas J. Balshi, founder, Glenn J. Wolfinger and Stephen G. Alfano.
For more information and to set up a personal tour, phone us at 215-646-6334 or email [email protected]

A is for AvaDent – D is for Digital Dentures – Win-win Technology for Doctor and Patient
Friday, February 6, 2015 is the scheduled grand debut of the art and science of AvaDent Digital Dentures for dentists in the Philadelphia community eager to absorb this revolutionary new technology. The Fort Washington academic hub known as The Institute for Facial Esthetics will embrace its first classroom of cutting edge practitioners, and will demonstrate with an actual patient, the most sophisticated denture protocol available anywhere on the entire globe.
Developed by Global Dental Science, Inc. in Scottsdale, Arizona by a team of engineers, the almost indestructible denture created totally by computers and then milled by robots is designed to make both treatment and ongoing maintenance uncomplicated for both doctor and patient. The physical properties of the denture, manufactured from a solid block of bio-compatible resin, lend themselves to a consistently snug fit that helps preserve bone from atrophy with no esthetic compromises. The strength of the denture resists breakage both inside and outside the mouth, but perhaps the most valuable asset of the digital denture is the ease and speed of replacement should the denture be damaged, misplaced or lost. Once the file is created, a spare denture is never more than a day away. For both the treating doctor and the patient, the delivery of a digital denture is predictable, streamlined, and surprisingly cost effective. Experts believe in time, all dentures will be digital as the laborious process of building the traditional version is destined to be replaced by the more sophisticated technology.
Drs. Tom Balshi, Glenn Wolfinger and biomedical engineer, Stephen Balshi will serve as faculty for this inaugural education to the digital denture technology. Registration is at capacity for this Philadelphia launch of AvaDent; however a second date for training has been set for April 17, 2015.
